Ombudsman Services - Referees Have Whistles - So Should The Employees Of All Ombudsman Schemes. (43)

Dear Reader,

It is now time to stand up for freedom, justice and democracy. Time to
insist on a public inquiry into the RICS failure to adequately regulate its
Members and (Un)Regulated Firms and its, "appointed" company -
Ombudsman Services:Property. Time for whistles all 'round.
To: The Leader of the House of Commons / The Business Secretary / The Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government and the Chair of Ombudsman Services:
Ombudsman Services Part 4: The Full English Cover-Up (43)

43) Referees Have Whistles - So Should The Employees Of All Ombudsman Schemes.

Dear Mrs Leadsom, Mr Clark, Mr Javid and Lord Tim Clement Jones,

It was once the case that to become a member of the British and Irish ombudsman Association - now rebranded as the Ombudsman Association - ombudsman schemes were required to have a Whistleblowing Policy.

Under the chairmanship of The Rev Shand Smith this requirement was dropped. We believe it was a reactionary and highly regressive step - a  broken solution helping to further break an already broken market.

Clearly, the decision was intended to cover up the appalling failure of ombudsmen to actually investigate consumers' complaints. Especially complex and costly property complaints. Otherwise things would have been different but they weren't.

To talk of transparency and accountability under such a regime is nonsensical.

Proposed directive will give broad protection to whistleblowers in the EU

Today the European Commission published their legislative proposal on whistleblower protection. Our first comments are welcoming. There are parts of it where improvements can be made, and we will now work on this together with the members of the platform WhistleblowerProtection.EU which we initiated 1,5 years ago. Follow @EUwhistleblower to see comments on the proposal from the different platform members.

There is still a long way before the text gets adopted by the Council, but today is a good day to pause for a second and reflect upon the hard work so many have put down the past few years. We can be proud of what we have done together. And we stand strong together in the upcoming work to ensure that the final outcomes are the best they possibly can be. Too many member states have poor protection. This puts EU workers at risk.

Eurocadres welcomes directive proposal

–In many ways it is a very good proposal which will give a broad protection to whistleblowers in the EU. We have pushed for this and the proposal now sets a wide scope including for example self-employed, consultants and volunteers. This we warmly welcome, says Martin Jefflén, President of Eurocadres.

–It must be easy for whistleblowers to understand if they will be protected or not. Individuals cannot be required to know the detailed contents of EU-legislation. The directive must be very clear on this. We also regret that reporting on worker rights is not covered by the proposal and would welcome a social partner consultation to include this, Martin Jefflén concludes.
